Run Down

Venue Review - SKONA House Ladies Beware.  My fiance and I live in the Northwest Territories and paid a 500 dollar deposit to Greg Penney back in January 2018 to have our wedding secured for that September.  A few weeks later we found out I was pregnant and postponed the wedding to September 2019.  He was a hard guy to get ahold of but he agreed to secure the date for 2019.  Upon arriving to Corner Brook he agreed to meet us and told us to call him any of the days that we were there and he would show us around.  My fiance called numerous times and no answer so we decided to drive down and at least go check out the grounds.  Ladies, that place is a state.  The glass balcony siding was all smashed, there was a giant hole in the deck, beer bottles thrown around the hot tub.  It's a beautiful area but its run down.  I am all for rustic but this place is a dump. Will be having our wedding elsewhere for sure!

As part of the bridal group, I am very disappointed with the management staff at Skona House. My sister (the bride) has had to book another venue after seeing the sad state of this place and lost her $500 deposit after the manager promised to return the money. Maybe this place is good enough for teenagers partying but not for an event so important as a wedding.

Needless to say, we will not be having our wedding there.  My fiance's mother is currently trying to get our deposit back but I doubt that we will.  Very unprofessional and a dump none the less.

I live nearby and have attended several events at this venue, including my sister's wedding back in 2010. The venue offers a gorgeous view of the Bay of Islands and has always been well maintained in the past. The current state of the ground leaves much to be desired, however, it is because of recent winter storms, and progress has been made in recent history to do repairs to the venue.

I don't like to stay in Skona House Because they could stay In Corner Brook for the Vacation Next time

As mother of the groom, I was shocked to go see the property before my sons wedding in Sept. It was in a deplorable state. I know after winter you have cosmetic things to do, but this was much worse. The balcony had glass shatered railings and a big hole in the floor of deck. Inside had many issues as well. Sink broken and very outdated. The basement was not appealing at all. My son tried several times to contact the owner and see the place and finally decided to drive down to see it. The daughter showed it to us and gave permission for my son to take pics. The look on my soon to be daughter in laws face said it all , the dissapointment and the stress of finding a new venue in such a short time. I then spoke to the owner 2 days later and was appalled on his business perception of the whole ordeal. He said there would be no refund of the 500 dollar deposit and I said my son would be in contact. There was nothing stating no refunds. Anyways I just wanted people to beaware of this facility and look at it before you choose it. As customer service is number one these days. Our experience was a 0. Also Im so glad this didnt happen to them the week of the wedding. They flew in from NWT and I flew in fro Ontario just to look at it. . Beware and very disappointed
