Horrible service, horrible staff. The accountant I was with was on her phone during the application for my bank account. Said I needed a credit check for a chequing account. he seemed like didnt know what they were doing. Horrible. Opened my account with CIBC online in 15 mins. If you're looking for severe retardation come here.

The Service was not high quality, bank teller asked a lot of unnecessary questions although I explained to her my situation. I just wanted to close my student account and I felt like I was being tried in the court of law. I will not recommend Scotia Bank to any international student interested in studying in Canada. Luckily I got exemplary service from CIBC, so I know customer banking service is not deplorable.

I had my investment account at Scotia McLeod so they gave me a Scotia Visa Card. I went to make a payment in cash and they asked me for proof of where I got the cash. Incredibly insulting. I no longer bank there.

I got an appointment with a representative at the branch and went there on my day off only to find out that they messed up and the representative I was supposed to meet with is not working at the branch. The employees seemed very incompetent.

Overall, Scotiabank is ok. Acceptable service and under normal conditions everyday banking is smooth. I do, however, have a particular frustration with this branch. This is the closest branch to my work so i have no other options. Pretty much all the employees are incompetent. They don't know basic stuff (like what an ATM withdrawal limit per transaction, they get confused between each other when, for example, one employee says one thing, then another employee hears it and says no, it is incorrect etc). The most frustration tends to arise when it comes to credit cards, TFSA. I had to stay in line for about 20 mins to find out that depositing money on TFSA requires seeing a financial advisor. The ladies serving the line, before you actually get to a counter, had no clue about it. One of the financial advisors declined my credit card application stating that I dont have enough income for that. I went to another branch and they reassured that it was a mistake on the bank's end (my income was more than enough for pretty much any of their credit cards). The same situation happened with a back-up credit card that i requested (that card has good insurance benefits) - their financial advisor "advised" me that it would be a huge risk for the bank to approve my application due to me already having one credit card with them. I applied online and my application was approved in a matter of seconds. It just seems that they like saying that everything has to be according to bank policies and protocols, but in their everyday line of duties they lack competency.
